Shopping Organic Q&A

Q: What are the most important foods to buy organic?

A: First, here’s: what you don’t need to buy organic: processed foods. Ladies and gents, an organic poptart is still a poptart no matter who makes it, and Annie’s Organic Mac & Cheese is not going to cure your hangover any better than would good ol’ Kraft. So skip those center isles and lets get to the produce and protein.

As a general rule, pesticides are on the outside of foods, so save your moolah on the stuff you peel the skin off of anyway.
Go organic whenever you can for:

  • Berries (strawberries, blueberries, raspberries, blackberries)
  • Apples
  • Pears
  • Peaches
  • Nectarines
  • Cherries
  • Grapes
  • Bell peppers
  • Leafy Greens (spinach, lettuce, etc.)
  • Tomatoes
  • Celery
Don’t stress over Organic for:
  • Bananas
  • Avocado
  • Onions
  • Corn
  • Pineapple
  • Watermelon
  • Mango
  • Green beans
  • Oranges
  • Eggplant
GO ORGANIC for meat, poultry and dairy (milk, eggs and cheese) always. Don’t spend it on organic fish because no criteria exists for it yet. For fish, go with wild.
